Bal Seal Engineering, Inc.
Print, Web, Multi-media, TRADE-SHOW installation design
After Disney Consumer Products, the next career-shaping experience for me was my time with Bal Seal Engineering in Foothill Ranch, CA. I was hired as a multi-disciplinary (read: only) graphic designer for an international, multi-million dollar engineering company with over a thousand employees. The Marketing team itself was only four people, and I was literally the only person in the whole company who used a Mac. Needless to say, it was a challenge to deliver on every project, on time and to spec.
I was responsible for trade-show booth design, product campaign visual design, all technical literature and product brochures, photography and video recording and compositing for international presentations, industry podcast recording and editing, and more. I was also hired in the middle of a corporate Drupal-based website restructuring, which I took over to complete.
This was both a rewarding experience, and a humbling one. I reached what I believed at the time was my limit, almost giving up on a career in graphic design. Although looking back on this experience now, I know that it only made me stronger and more willing to push myself even further to achieve great things. With the right kind of planning, time management, work-life balance, and support from friends and family, you really can accomplish anything.
